Introduction
There is no surprise that the United States is now considered a challenging place to live. From controversial leadership and international conflict to growing fears about a new pandemic, many issues—declining birth rates, rising gas prices, job insecurity, and environmental concerns—are dominating the news. Public health, cost of living, and political decisions have left many feeling like the West is indifferent to its own decline. Some may think that if the world is going to end, it could happen soon. But before you give in to despair, this piece will address the major problems causing today's frustration and outline practical ways you can navigate and respond to the challenges facing both your mind and the world.
Cost Of Living

President Donald Trump:
If you’ve been on the internet since 2024, you should know the internet has been on 10. Starting off strong, the United States has collectively come together to elect our very first felon to the white house before a black woman.
So, since his presidency, out of all he promised, what has he provided to the US besides Stress and Despair?
(If you don’t want to read the full list, I’ll highlight the important points.)
First thing he did while sitting in office, he signed an executive order to establish BILLIONARE (almost trillionaire) Elon Musk as the leader for the country's spending. (Someone who has no relevance in politics, who could save the planet but decides not to because, I guess, the money isn’t enough.) Is essentially taking care of our taxes. I wonder why everyone’s in so much debt all of a sudden…
Of course, there's also the well-known Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Alien Enemies Act crackdown. I wrote a bit about this in a later article. I’ll link it at the bottom if you want to read it, but in short, the administration wants to deport any immigrants who are foreigners to potentially “round up criminals”. That includes innocent civilians who were BORN here. Not to mention the aggression and disgusting acts from these ICE agents.
Tariffs! Three months into his presidency, the literal devil started putting tariffs on everything for no reason whatsoever. He thought he was trying to save America or something. (on Liberation Day, mind you) literally the same month the global market crashed.
Trump was booked and BUSY because literally 2 months later, he has to battle his court case.
2 months later, he began to get involved in a war HE had NO business being in. I did a research paper on this Middle East war, if you want to understand the justification of the US’s intervention. Here's a quote from one of my sources: “The United States has attempted to mediate this conflict but has tilted heavily in support of Israel. Some people have argued that we need a more neutral party to bring these groups together to resolve this very divisive and deep-seated conflict. Both sides have persuasive arguments to support their case.”
Epstein Files (I’m not gonna get too deep into this). He’s one of the founding fathers on that list.
THIS ALL HAPPENED IN 2025!
Stepping into America:
Want to know what a trip to the United States costs for the average American as a teenager starting their journey to College? Here’s a list:
Health care is plummeting.
Gas Rates are high, along with other expenses: an apartment, a car, college itself, can you BELIEVE fast food is expensive too!?
Capitalism is spiking, and Patriarchy is probably a leading aspect.
The education system is not getting any better.
Obesity continues to grow.
The entire country continues to pump waste into the atmosphere because I guess we have another planet waiting for us…
Overconsumption is normalized.
Everyone's addicted to something…that includes using the restroom with a cellphone, taking a shower with a cellphone.
Working citizens to death is apparently the American Dream…
Racism and just a lack of empathy
I can go on, but these are the main points. This is probably the main reason why birth rates have declined SO HARD, yet instead of focusing on making the United States livable again, we want to encourage women (men too) to bring the bar up a bit more. Look at the list and tell me if that’s ever gonna end up happening in the next two years.
So sad it's come to this— the concept of the States could’ve been so iconic…
AI:
There is an article I wrote about TikTok and how AI is getting into human safe spaces, and how the internet responded to this (It's not out yet, so stay tuned). In summary, AI is bad. Really bad. It erodes the brain's thinking skills and independence, and it is drinking up all the fresh water while the planet is already suffering from irreversible climate change. The creators of AI said themselves that they are willing to sacrifice the earth to get rich from AI. We don’t know what's true on the internet anymore. It’s so sad because it is the last place for humans to interact and have fun in this horrible worldly condition. Data centers are being built around communities in rural areas because they believe they won’t be able to fight back.
It’s not all bad news, but there is still a battle:
Sora Ai is no longer with us. The company claims it’s because they want to focus on other things, which CLEARLY is a cap. Though yes, a lot of people were using it, it was nothing worth investing in if we’re thinking long term. Speaking of the long term, many other AI investors at major companies believe AI will be the next jackpot for them. Not true either. You won’t hear that on the internet, though. Why? Because that’s the plan. Bringing me to my next topic…

Everything I’ve just mentioned is what you probably hear EVERY SINGLE DAY, once you open your phone or watch TV. All the sad talk and passed-around information about the state of the world is overwhelming to your mind. Though it is good that you are choosing to be informed and aware that these problems are happening in our country, mental health is soooo important. To me, the mind wasn’t meant to ingest all this news across the world in one sitting. Like a buffet: You have a plate and all these dishes waiting for you, though it was satisfying to eat all the dishes, at the end of the day, it doesn’t feel so good when the mix is stirring in your stomach. (Is that some good Ideology or what?)
My point is, with all these overwhelming problems, it is sometimes better to take a break and give yourself some grace. While the issues are serious, ignoring them isn't the answer either. The main argument I'm making is that despite the current state of the U.S. and the world, you can take practical steps to protect your mental health, stay informed, and create positive change. Here are some things that work for me.

1. If there is a major conflict that freaks me out, learn more about it. That’s what Google's for.
I think learning about an issue more makes you educated on the topic and furthers context. Fear is one of the easiest ways to catch someone's attention, especially on Social Networks. Doing research lets you decide what you should think about the situation, and sometimes you can get more information on how you can help.
**If you do plan to stay on social media, though, follow pages that will point out good news. Knowing there are still great things changing around the world will keep you hopeful and encourage you.
2. Take a break from social media.
I mentioned this before, but another way to protect your peace of mind is to take a break. Delete the app entirely if that’s what it takes. Take a week off and give your head some time to digest the information you encountered. You’re not shackled to watch all these videos on your phone. Don’t let your phone take control of you.
3. If there is conflict and your contribution is resiliency, then cut it off.
It can be tough to sacrifice something you love for the sake of a better planet. Try Chat GPT, for example. A lot of people know it negatively impacts the planet, but when it comes to a tough assignment to get to, they let their guard down. Don’t feed into the problem. Know that you are in control of making a change, as small as it is. A great tip is to inform the people around you in your community. Now your small impact has reached a wider audience, leading to a domino effect of positive change.
4. Have a safe space.
Not only physically going outside and hanging out with nature or being with the people you love, but this can also be learning something new, leaning on religious practices (for me, that’s reading my bible). Whatever always makes you feel happy, do it! (nothing addictive and dangerous though.) All of these activities (especially doing them with friends or family) will make you feel sane and positive.
5. Do some work out there. Help out your community, Vote, protest, call or email your local representatives, etc. Support your non-profits (PBS), donate.
There are so many things you can do as a citizen, so use that privilege. Go vote, go support local stores, shops, news channels, and farmers. The United States’ big corporations seem to be running the world. Again, they cannot be at this rate without you! If you and your communities support those who deserve it, where will the corporations get their money from?
Self-care. THIS IS A MAJOR ONE.
Physical care like exercising, eating healthy, taking care of your skin and hair routinely
Mind care like mind games, reading or journaling, going to therapy, talking to friends and family.
These examples of self-care help. Going through fear and mental stress is something that no one should be going through alone. Feeling a balance in your life that you can control that positively impacts you brings so many benefits.
Conclusion

Being worried about the world is normal, especially in this day and age. Feeding the worry can be obsessive and will turn it into something unhealthy. Finding ways to relieve your mind and things you can do to help impact the world (more specifically, America) does more for yourself than scrolling through algorithms purposely feeding off your vulnerability.
Watch some of the videos I linked below for some inspiration and motivation. I think you’ll like the last one,
Stay Positive!
